The Role
As a growing and fast-paced business with a strong industry reputation, we’re seeking a proactive and highly organised Transport Manager to take ownership of our HGV and grey fleet across the South Eastern region.
This is a hands-on, high-impact position where you’ll lead fleet compliance and transport operations, ensuring everything operates safely, efficiently and to the high standards we’re known for.
You will report in to our Head of Transport, who is based at our Head Office in West Sussex.
Key Responsibilities
You’ll play a key role in keeping our operations moving by:
- Managing and maintaining our HGV and grey fleet in our South Eastern region, ensuring all vehicles are compliant and roadworthy
- Ensuring all vehicle maintenance is up to date, including MOTs, PMIs, tachographs, and defect repairs
- Coordinating calibration and testing of equipment, tools, and vehicles
- Once we have a functioning workshop, overseeing the day-to-day running of the fitters, including organisation, safety, and efficiency
- Maintaining accurate and up-to-date records across systems such as Fleetcheck and Licencecheck
- Ensuring all driver and vehicle documentation is completed, compliant, and filed correctly
- Monitoring driver compliance with traffic regulations and driver hours rules
- Supporting driver licence checks, training records, and ongoing development (including FORS training)
- Working closely with Contract Managers to manage both employed and self-employed drivers
- Ensuring RAMS and working processes are in place, up to date, and communicated effectively
- Ensure full compliance with all relevant legislation and company policies, particularly Health & Safety, Quality, and Environmental standards
- Support the Head of Transport in implementing legislative changes and ensuring adherence
- Assist in maintaining Operator’s Licence requirements, ISO certifications, FORS, and other accreditations
- Contribute to continual improvement across our Integrated Management Systems
About You
- Strong leadership and people management skills
- Highly organised with excellent attention to detail
- Confident communicator with the ability to influence and support teams
- Proven experience in fleet, transport, or workshop management
- Good understanding of transport legislation and compliance requirements
- Ability to work to tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- A proactive problem solver with a hands-on approach
Qualifications & Requirements
- Transport Manager CPC (essential)
- FORS Practitioner (desirable)
- Full UK Driving Licence (Category C desirable, but not essential)
- Relevant industry experience
